Why should you be out of pocket ?
Spot on.

Deal with the council yourself, and agree a cash in lieu settlement. Don't hand it over to your insurance company to deal with, and don't hand over any keys or documents.

Sorry to hear about the RTA, make the claim against the council!

I was involved in an RTA December 2017, 18 year old Transylvanian HGV driver on the wrong side of the road. Miraculously we survived, the car a 2012 Fiesta was a right off, however the HGV shed all its diesel and was trailered back to home the next morning. The council (Cumbria) then set about seeking payback for the clean up from my insurer as I was an easier target. Forget the morals get in there!

By the time you both bang in a claim for whiplash , trauma, physio, loss of earnings etc you'll be able to afford a nice car from the compo , I see there's a BRG ZTT on Autotrader , it looks lovely https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classif...ad=Used&page=1

You forgot psychological stress and loss of sexual apetite. The Op may as well go for a V8!

Found a couple on ebay, but they're all collection only and too far away. .....

Depends on the insurance company.

About 3 weeks ago, and pillock managed to reverse into my tourer which was parked at work.

Basically it's destroyed the grill, and a small amount of damage to the bumper and the passenger side headlight needs a polish.

It's all going through insurance - the broker wanted to write it off, but I said no, and I am now dealing with the underwriters, and the repairs are being done (at just under £800!)

It's a Mk.2/54 plate with 244k so not all insurance companies write the cars off.
