Having looked at the webbing of the sump, and also assuming that the dipstick hole does allow access right to the base of the pan, it will make little difference, even less with a hot engine.

this was my way of thinking until I bought myself a pela 6000 so much easier on the diesel I still do remove the sump plug every other oil change or so

Have to say, with regards to the pump/sump plug argument. I would rather the oil be changed, and if a tiny bit is left behind when using a pump then this is far better than not changing the oil at all.


I tend to use a pump, as when I checked there was about a tea spoon of oil left when I removed the sump plug after using a pump. But this is on a diesel, so no need to go underneath, whereas on a V6 access to the oil filter needs you to get underneath so no time saving.

Agree 100%. I find I change the oil much more regularly since I got the pump and as it's so much quicker and easier you can plan to do the change without worrying too much about the weather.
