1940 CARS.

It was quite rare for the brakes to work on all 4 wheels at the same time.

If it rained then when you accelerated your wipers, when you needed them most, slowed down and occasionally stopped.

Those little turn indicator arms where nigh on invisible even when the 2 watt bulb was working.

Tyres were very often worn down to the canvas and steering wheels had INCHES of free play on them.

With my 1937 Standard Flying Nine you could sit in the back seat and watch the road going by through the holes in the floor under your feet.

The headlights were like a bunch of glow worms in a can.

I don't see how any of the statistics in the above posts are comparable.--

IF.... as stated earlier we the (UK) have agreed to come into line with all EU traffic laws it will mean we can all drive like they do in France, Spain, and Italy ... like total t**ts.

Hmmm. . . . does that mean we will have no speed limit on the motorways like the autobahns?

Its not the speeding implications that worry me so much as the ability to track you.
You know that the government wont do this themselves, it will be a "partnership" with some internet behemoth such as Google.
We can look forward to loads of lovely "targeted advertising" based on a location tracker that it is against the law to turn off.
Drive to tesco, 20 emails with supermarket vouchers miraculously arrive.
Walking round a garden center, ping, have you seen the rande of garden tools on Amazon.

I like to drive, but it seems the pleasure I get from doing so is forever being diminished (forcibly) by law/legislation etc. The lawmakers, conservationists, governments, simply don't want us to drive, but the economy seems to want us to buy cars.

Its more the fuel they want us to buy I suspect. The tax on petrol/deisel is massive.
The same reason that you cant charge an electric car anywhere outside the London bubble, they make all the right PC noises about suporting electric vehicles but they dont really want you to buy them.
I live in a town of 100k people, it has 2 public charge points.
