Default Any tips to keep the floor mats in place?

Hi, after an 'incident' involving my mat jamming my accelerator I wondered if you had any tips on keeping the mats in place apart from the original methods as I don't have the hooks, I can't even see where they were.

You can buy the hooks and screw them into carpet.

Tell you what’s worse than your carpet moving up under the pedals… when you spend a lot of time literally drinking and driving in your yellow Mk 1 Escort Mexico, slow down at the end of the M2 coming into Belfast, and one of your many discarded bottles rolls through to the front from the rear foot well (clear path, no electromechanical gubbins under those seats) and behind the brake pedal, JUST when a big artic in front of you has slammed its far superior brakes on…

You might be surprised how hard you have to stamp on a brake pedal to smash a Drambuie bottle.

PS I was only 18 at the time

I certainly had an oh NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD- moment when it was bouncing off the rev limiter (joining a dc at the time) turned off the engine and pumped the pedal a few times thinking it was a stuck throttle body and after pulling over realised it was the mat had slid over the pedal and was holding it down.

I had to recover a truck that had run into the back of a bus due to "brake failure"! A beer can was wedged between the pedals!!!

I don't have fabric mats but do have rubber ones. These are for vans (Halfords) and don't go anywhere because they fill the whole footwell.

Get some strips of self adhesive velcro. Chuck away the fuzzy half, cut the hooks half into short strips and stick it to the underside of your mats. The hooks grip the carpet.

Just get the original fixings, they do the job and will match the colour of the holes in your mats.
