Diesel front pulley
Good morning are there any obvious physical signs of impending front pulley failure I have a "tinkling sound " from that area but everything looks normal.

Pouring water on the pulley usually stops the pulley noise momentarily. Or pop off the drivers wheel and take a look at the rubber between the two pieces and see if there's any deteriation. Pulley is usually a clattering sound but worth a look see. Lee.

Unfortunately you won't see that side of the pulley unless you take it off.
Only one bolt but it can be a tad tight - last one I removed needed a 5ft scaffold bar extension and me swinging on it for all I was worth. Could also be the water pump - this was mine when it went. If you remove the serpentine and aircon belts you can check all the other pulleys and idlers for play and roughness. . Last edited by Mike Noc; 14th May 2019 at 21:54.. |

I'd just take of the alternator belt and check each pulley in turn, which should be quite easy for Tony to do
So the water pump, tensioner/idler and bottom pulley, in the case of the latter is should be fairly easy to detect movement between the "sandwich" sections of the inner and outer pulley. Brian |

Brian, do you remove the sump plug on that to drain the oil, or suck it up with a pump?
