Filter seal not sealing? They can be a bu**er to fit if you try to fit them on the filter rather than on the body.

Err .... something the garage did? What did you ask them to do?

Is the push in fitting fully home? If so check the O ring, it may be split or damaged.

A badly fitted port seal doesn't cause low fuel pressure. I suspect the reason was FFS (Fuel Filter Syndrome), which results from a slackening of the filter module cap from the main body. Pump pressure is reduced by the leak. If the pressure is too low the engine will never start. Tightening the filter cap resolves it, but only temporarily. Once the filter has slackened, it will always slacken and the best way to fix this is the FOC (Fabled Orange Clip). If the mechanic didn't fit one, then you should do so asap or FFS will strike again.

I’m a bit sceptical about your mechanic’s reasoning. Having experienced a leaking seal it was nothing like your picture, just petrol below the level of the screwed top, think about it - it would require pressure of an oil well to get the upper part soaking wet. But on another occasion when I fitted the orange clip and released the push in fitting there was quite a lot of pressure in the fuel system which drenched the upper part of the filter just as your picture, rags didn’t help much. So I reckon Mike Noc was right in his first statement and perhaps your mechanic didn’t want to admit the connection wasn’t correct.

Regards
