Default Broke down help req

I have broken down on the A5/A49 services, the six drive belt snapped. We are on our way to Wrexham is there anyone local who has a belt for a diesel. The AA are coming out but I don't expect them to have one.

Maybe contact Jules. I think he’s down your way...

Yeah just rang him no answer on either phone. The AA guy says it is because there is slight play in the power steering pump bearing and that's what has caused it is he right or just trying to get out of fixing the belt.

You said the belt has snapped - if that is the case then a bit of play in the steering pump pulley shouldn't affect a new belt going on.

If however the old belt came off in one piece then something else has caused this.

When it happened to me it was the water pump pulley shaft that collapsed, and I needed the AA for a tow home:

Hi, yeah the belt on mine is in bits, I have heard from Jules but the AA have dropped me and the caravan in Wrexham and I can't get it to Jules.

I am going to buy a belt, what tools will I need to fit a new belt and I will do it here on the campsite (storm Hannah willing).

If you have got an undertray then you will need to take that off so check the fixings as people fit all sorts.

Then the only other tool you will need is a long 24mm ring spanner - an aviation spanner is ideal to release the tensioner.

If you have never done one they can be a bit fiddly - a bent wire coat hanger might help to hook the belt around the pulleys, and check the belt run is correct - get it wrong and you will have a foot of slack left in the belt.

Thanks all belt is on and running fine. That diagram is deceptive it was the one I found, but the idler and tensioner are in a different place. Still it gave me a better idea of the route than I had.
