Default Another cooling fan problem!!

I had a thought that my cooling fan was playing up and yesterday, after reading various posts on here, tried the ignition on, demist test. Now my problem is this - the fan sounds like its rotating on the low speed, but initially it sounded like it was catching something. I did hit a deer recently which has broke the lower bumper/fog light mount etc and I noticed today that the bottom grill and one of the transverse pipes had been pushed back slightly. Having remedied this, I tried the demist t6est again and once more, it sounded like the motor was spinning but the blades are definately NOT rotating. So no issues with the electrical side of things but can these fan blades sheer off the motor somehow and will this need a replacement complete fan?? (I do have a replacement 2 speed with silver resistor from my donor car) Thanks for reading.

Yes Gary. It's a bayonet fitting and it might have been damaged allowing the motor to spin without turning the blades.

I'm pretty sure that the blades were originally listed as a separate part but whether they're still available is another matter.

You'll need to take the bumper off to find out exactly what's happening.

Short answer, yes the blade catches are only plastic, get brittle with age and can shear.

Regards

ps Simon beat me to it.

If you do require a new fan unit, I'd avoid buying a second hand one.
