Soon after I got my ZT in January, I had decided to get a stereo with MP3 capability, and do away with the changer in the boot. Thanks to Colin NI, I was able to install a non changer carpeted PPD sides with light covers.

I did have an old Panasonic mp3 disc player, which I bought a few years ago, but couldnt be bothered with discs, anymore, and never keen on the face mounted USB slots, nor face mounted AUX sockets, I found a Kenwood W7141 on the Bay for reasonable money. Whilst I like the double din units, I couldnt justify the expense, simply because I wouldnt use half the functions regularily enough to warrant it. This Kenwood although an older model, had the rear mounted USB and rear mounted AUX socket was a bonus. It looked and was reassured (truthfully as it seems) hardly used, and was a third of the price of the model I was going to buy.

I had a couple of spare switches, and a 2 and 4 hole walnut fascia. So I played with a USB socket in the fascia, looked untidy, and no different than a face mounted one on the stereo, you can see the mess of it in the dash pic. So........... to plan B, into the armrest cubby hole.

One is a USB socket for music files.
Second is a USB socket for charging a phone. (I think I have only used my charger once in the car, so it doesnt need to be handy).
Two AUX sockets via a splitter, connected to the stereo, in the dash and in the cubby. I can if I ever need/want to, connect my tablet to it and watch videos (not on the move of course!) either front for me, or rear for my niece and nephew.
Next will be new switches to replace the ones I experimented with into the fascia. A USB charger socket for my sat nav, for the three times a year I am likely to use it, fed via the unused cigar lighter. With a bit of luck and patience it will look factory fitted.

Today I coloured coded the splitter. Not a bad job from a rattle can.

Today I fixed the bonnet release cable on my ZT. A fiddly job it was, too. But worth it - I can now open the bonnet without feeling like I'm trying to steal the car!

Today I wished my ZT a happy (10th) birthday. According to the records it was born (rolled off the line) at 8.33am on 17th July 2004...
Plenty of miles/years left in it yet! Still loving every mile

PS. Thanks all for contributing to this thread and keeping it going.....keep it coming
