Default Polishing roof rails. Anyone done this??

Id love chrome ones but that would be a bit pricey so Im thinking about spraying them silver or stripping the black paint off and polishing them (I assume they are alloy).

Problem is I don't want to strip all the paint off only to find they aren't alloy or wont polish up nicely.

So I was wondering if anyone has already done this?

Member 'Duotone' has had his powder coated silver. They look very nice indeed and I understand it wasn't an expensive job.

Here is a picture of the powder coated roof rails.

Cost about £60.

To have them chrome plated cost about £350 or more.

I can confirm the bars are aluminium. They will polish up a treat if you get them on a buffing wheel with some polishing compound.

I Changed the roof rails to a nice silver to complement the chrome and silver wheels.

Used a good old rattle can and lacquered.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW! Duotone and YellaFella, that does look good. Should look proper nice on my Royal Blue.

Tell me, does the paint finish stand up to having roof bars clamped to them and ropes tied round them?

Powder coating is fairly tough and the genuine Rover crossbars have rubber sleeve's around the clamps.

Anyway, my powder coated roof rails are just for show.
