Default Extending aerial lead from boot

If you convert a highline car to an aftermarket head unit does the radio reception suffer as a long extension lead must be used to connect the aerial from the boot to the dash? Does this depend on the quality/brand of lead used?

Thanks

I havnt heard of bad quality due to having to extend the aerial lead.

Obviously the better the quality of lead then the better the reliability.

Is your aerial under the parcel shelf?

Why not put it under the dash as others have done?

That's the gps antenna. The OP is referring to the radio (FM) antenna.

Ah, ok. I've never seen the radio (FM) antenna for a high line - what does it look like?

It's built in to the rear screen, but with hi-line setups, the actual radio receiver is in the boot, so that's where the arial lead terminates - hence the need for an extension cable when changing head units.

Installed Kenwood D-D unit into 03 tourer to replace high-line head unit. Exchanged from 05 Contemporary not having high-line. Unit functions in the saloon. However when installed in the tourer everything ok apart from the radio. Attached a shielded radio extension lead to the lead feeding the high-line module in the boot area. Fed cable to the front of the car, no kinks to the lead. Result: rubbish radio reception. Reinstalled high-line: radio fine. Returned Kenwood to the saloon: radio fine. Any ideas as to cause please?

When you disconnected the Highline you have probably lost the 12 volt power to the aerial amplifier
You will need to reconnect a 12 volt feed to the amp (up in the drivers side rear head lining ) and then all should be fine
