I have owned mine for just short of 3 years now. There is a very noticable difference in numbers between then and now.

I have also noticed that the ones for sale now tend to be facelift models (newest)

I have not seen a facelift ZT in ages, a very very rare animal these days!

With the average life of a car being 14 years, sadly any MG / Rover is now technically end of life. Just a case of relatively few passing from mainstream to enthusiast owned.
I never would have imagined it to be the case in the 90's while watching Rover go from strength to strength but sadly it is all history now.

I see 75s near me a lot but not ZTs. An 05 blue ZT has appears to have come to live near me about a mile away so I don't feel totally alone now though lol!

Cool

Quite a few still around over the border here in Cornwall. There is at least 6 Rover 75’s and 5 ZT’s within Saltash, including my two.

I have noticed a steady decline over the last 3 years, there are a few beat up 75 Estates around that look like there are being uses like a van with ladders on the roof and the back full of cr4p.

Recently a couple of very tidy ZT's have appeared locally and also a 75 Saloon that looks like it has just left the factory with every option. Never had a chance to speak to the old boy who drives it but it is in amazing condition. My guess he keeps it in a garage and polishes it at every opportunity.

My MOT guy reckons he only see's a couple including mine, all the others have been sold on or he has failed on emissions and/or rust never to be seen again, one he failed last year the owner had it from new and it had only done 40k but both sills and the rear suspension were so bad he advised the owner not to drive it until he had it repaired but he decided to scrap it as his wife wanted something newer????

I hadn't thought about it but you're right. There are definitely less on the roads. I see 2 most days in a garden. Both saloons in a lovely light blue metallic, one mk1 and one mk2. Sadly neither now move. The mk1 has been on ramps with the bonnet ajar for years. Slowly dropping away in numbers for sure. I'm looking to sell mine shortly, should have sold it a year ago. It simply doesn't fit our needs anymore but I really don't want it to be run into the ground and scrapped. It's a great car with nothing wrong with it.

Natural progression as the cars move from mainstream to true classic status. True enthusiasts will keep a number going but other owners once faced with bills for more than they probably paid for the car to keep it on the road will just scrap them and find another cheap car with a years ticket on it. Afterall they probably only bought it for a car with many comforts at a cheap price and then are usually the ones who slam the car when things go wrong.

We seem to lack the enthusiasts who get hold of the scrap cars and strip all the usable parts off them to sell back to other owners . This certainly happened with the Scimitar marque some years ago and kept a good number of cars on the road. At least 2 companies are in existence today who started doing this many years ago............but of course have had to diversify to other marques as well now. This is important as we are seeing a large number of poor pattern parts for sale on ebay et al which are nowhere near the quality of the original.

The problem I have is that I never want to stop driving it. Classics end up in garages hardly ever coming out.

I have been in the same position with my classic bikes. I really don't want to park it up to look at it.
