Use the gadget pictured below. Very fast and very efficient.

Thanks Trikey for an instant reason to the cause of the problem.

Tried a different battery and started easily.

Now just got to take the other one back that is still under warranty,

I've been looking for one of these for a while. My old one was "borrowed" by a "friend" who never returned it! Now I know where to look! Cheers.

Arrived in the post last week and guess what happened when I went to start my car this morning? Nothing! Took three attempts before it started, then went fine. Looks like the wire brush thingy will get used once the wind drops a bit. No click so it will probably be the small lead to the starter or the inhibitor switch (auto). The battery leads and earths will get a good clean too.

Or worn solenoid contacts Mike (which is what happened to my V6 four years ago).

Not even getting the "click" to the solenoid but will check that too whilst I'm in there.
