Default Cigar Lighter Door

Hi all. Just picked up a 2004 Rover 75 Connoisseur SE today. Very pleased with the car but just one niggle. I cannot open the door on the centre console for the cigar lighter/power socket. I would appreciate guidance for a newbie on how to open the door or gain access to the cigar lighter please. Thanks for any help.

The little vertical door, is opened by pressing on it, it should then slowly drop open to reveal the lighter behind the door.

There is a marked space for an optional second socket, in the centre compartment box between the seats, under the arm rest. If you meant that, you reach under the lip to pull a catch, to open that.

Fix a poor handbrake; DIY ABS diagnostic unit; Loan of the spanner needed to change the CDT belts; free OBD diagnostics +MAF; Correct Bosch MAF cheap; DVB-T install in an ex-hi-line system; DD install with a HK amp; FBH servicing.

I've taken a vow of poverty. To annoy me, send money.

Thank you Harry. That's my problem. No ending of pushing or prodding persuades the door to open.Hmmm.

Mine was quite stiff too at first, but I just kept on pulling and pushing until I felt it twitch a little, then got a firm grip and gave it a good tug and it came open nicely. Been perfect since. I pushed it in first to make sure the latch had disengaged, then just got my fingertips behind it and eased it down. Seemed a bit risky at first but I assume gunk and stiffened it up until I cleared it.

Good luck.

You can get a little bit of access to the cigarette lighter by opening the cup holder to the left of it.--=-

Thank you all - I did it, using some leverage from the side cupholder. I was worried that I would break it on my first day of ownership. It comes down with a bit of persuasion now. Thanks again.

Glad you got it sorted. Give the gubbins a squirt of lube of some sort, it'll work in and work properly from then. Well, mine did.

A quick squirt of WD 40 usually does the trick.---

I now see that the cigar lighter socket itself is not fixed. It wobbles gently far back where my fingers can hardly reach it. Does anyone know how to remove the whole unit to attempt to put it back together, or find a replacement. Thanks as always.
