Upgrade harmony to symphony with cd changer on 99 car
Hi, ive beem given the chance to buy a symphony radio to replace my harmony. It comes with original cd changer to which it was connected i another car.
I know i need a bmw 17 to ISO adapter for the radio, i have that allready, BUT can i just ad the cd changer after upgrading to symphony? Is the symphony cd changer just connected to the symlhony head unit or do i need aditional wiring on the cars loom??? I have a 1999 with standard harmony radio now.

I've just removed a symphony unit and the CD changer form the glove box. the CD was connected to the unit via a square-ish 6pin (i think) connector with no other connections that I can remember. I just left the wiring in the glovebox and the other end dangling behind the new DD unit.

ps i seem to remember that the CD chnager wire forms part of the 3 part plug that goes into the back of the symphony unit, coloured red/green/yellow i think.
if you need the CD wire, i could always try and remove my redundant one and send to you!

Unfortunately it needs more than just the plug - the Symphony and changer will both need a connection to the K-Bus. There is more information in the 'How to Forum' - 'ICE & Navigation' - 'Change a Harmony for a Symphony' (page 1) & 'How to fit a CD changer to a to a Harmony or Symphony' (page 3).

Wel got the symphony working. And instead of a cd changer i opted for a connects2 aux adapter. I plugged in de yellow green and blue plug but when pressing the cd/tape button itjust says "no tape". Do i need to activate the cd changer port on the radio or is there another lead that should run from the loom to the connects 2 device in order for it to work? Fyi: it also doenst work when a phone that is playing music is connected to the connects2.

You need to push the tape/cd button twice to go to CD mode.
That is where the connect2 provides the input. Have the same setup and it works ok. Rob

Allready tried that.... do you have any additional wirering going to the connects2? I only connected the yellow green blue plug to the radio. The red plug on the other end is connected to nothing. Same with you?

If you can get a symphony harness from one of the club traders, or a breaker, it has the wiring for glovebox mounted CD player. One unit has a male connector, the other a female, so the loose end of the symphony harness, will join up with the existing end of the harmony harness, that originally went in to the back of the radio. I did this with mine when I did the swap, it’s the easiest way, and there is plenty of room inside the centre console to push the extra cable length in, to fit the radio.

Remember that when installing it (long time ago), the instructions where not so clear, but it needs a connector (quite small) to the Connect-box, perhaps the red one. Can't remember that a plug is unused. Perhaps you can try another combination. Are all plugs fully home? It worked first time for me, hopefully nothing is wrong with the kit you have got. Rob
