Default Spring break!! Which spring? 1.8

As the thread tittle says... experienced an early spring break today... RH side front, spring down onto the tyre. Seems the tyre survived but the car is unusable. Does anyone have a chart for the correct colourcode for the front springs? Its a 1.8 manual saloon -99.

Thanks

If I remember correctly the colourcode is on a sticker on the innerside of the back seat. You can lift the part you are sitting on up to read it. Search the forum for it because there are several threads about it before you make an attempt.

Unlucky, but at least you weren't moving at the time (post on Norwegian group). This list will give you some idea of the fitted combinations: https://rimmerbros.com/c/MG-Rover-75...le-Information

Seems like pulling the rear seat or find the old colourcode is the only way, told both here and from the Rimmers sales guy. I guess both is perished on mine, so ordered a set of LESJÖFORS 4075728 + strut bearings from a local pusher. Price was reasonable and delivery early next week.

The truth is that I was moving when discovered the broken spring, but only about a 50 meters. The spring "landed" on the tyre without any sharp edges so managed to revers the car back home and took the LandRover for work instead...

Hope you have more luck with Lesjöfors than I did (https://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/for....php?p=2805487) - remember one poster who bought at roughly £26 each in UK, I had to pay double that in Sweden for Swedish springs.

Good luck

Strange... Lesjøfors should be quality items. Paid 518NOK each in total. Could not do quality springs cheaper from the UK.

From me little black book:
All 1.8 front springs have the same spring rate of 19.3 N/mm, but they have different fitted loads.
Green/yellow has a fitted load of 3458 N
Green/Brown has a fitted load of 3611 N
Green/Purple has a fitted load of 3764 N

The difference relates to the extras fitted to the car, such as air con, auto box, etc.
All the 1.8 use the same damper.

Recommendation:
New genuine MGR colour-coded springs are being sold on eBay by 'best_of_british_rover'

Here's one of their listings: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GENUINE-R...item3cf8c2ee05

Above data were collated from posts by Norfie, who works for Delphi (who supplied springs to MGR).

My paint code shows as:

Front RH - PB
Front LH - JB
RR damper - G
RR spring - RM

So, which spring code is mine? Might buy a spare or two. Thanks.

Probably just a coincidence, but I was making the car moveable by cuting away the broken end of the spring and put it nicely back onto the "spring pan". While doing this with the RH side on the jack, the other side broke in the same way. Pretty surprized when I heard the other spring pop!! Had to do the same modification to that side then...

You should consider fitting the tyre protector gizmos.
