Simply slacken slightly the subframe bolts opposite side to the spring you're changing, and remove the ones on the side you're changing the spring on, along with the bottom damper mount.

Once you done that, refit the subframe bolts to that side and remove the opposite side.

Once the new springs are fitted, torque up the subframe bolts to the specified torque and job done

Beats frabbing about with drop links and rusted fasteners any day of the week.....20 minutes to do both rear springs

Brian
Did my 2 rear springs today on the tourer in this way - perfect... much easier and quicker than messing about with drop link bolts etc..

I will do it this way from now on.. Thanks Brian..

Been absent for a while. Much too much stress - now resolved by resigning the hateful job.

Anyhoo - Another big THANKS! To Brian for this handy tip. Took me a bit longer than 20 minutes I'll admit (3 1/2 hrs probably): but saved me the pain of all the fiddly rusted ARB bolts also reducing the time needed to lie on my back under the car (always a bonus). Reckon I'd have still been doing it tomorrow if I'd gone the 'official' way with it. The 1.8t Tourer will live for one more year at least.
