Default Mr - Cruise Control & ATC display problem

Help please. I have retrofitted cruise control to 2004 diesel model but on reconnecting the battery there was a popping noise toward front right under bonnet. The cruise does nothing and worst of all I now have er code on both left and right temperature windows on climate control unit in dash. Also no heated rear window indicator light on climate unit when button pressed. I notice that the er code goes away if ignition switched off and on but reappears if I press the front demist followed by the rear demise. I’ve carefully checked all fuses and fused links under glovebox and under bonnet and removed the cruise wiring but still get ‘er’ messages on climate control unit. I am wondering if somehow I have blown the external temperature sensor. Does anyone have any ideas?

Re-check the mega fuse by removing. MarinaBrian says it cannot be tested in circuit and he's usually right about these things.

WHEN YOU SAY mega fuse DO YOU MEAN THE LARGE LINK ON THE RIGHT UNDER THE BONNET ??

IF SO THERE SHOULD BE NO DASH LIGHTS AT ALL SHOULD THERE ??

Sorry. Had caps lock on. Lol.

The OP asked for ideas, this was mine remembering a post by MarinaBrian. https://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/for...d.php?t=266037

The diesel has no 150A megafuse fitted, it has a strap link fitted, and I suspect something is very broken, or the fuses haven't been all checked

A popping noise from the UBFB would point to a fusible link failure

My advice would be to disconnect the cruise and see if all returns to normal.

Did the car have the wiring harness present or did you make your own up?
