V2X Connected vehicles.
Blimey! what do you make of the latest Vehicle to infrastructure malarkey? "Such is the growth of connectivity in vehicles that the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) predict that all cars in the UK will be connected by 2026 and it is estimated that the global market size for vehicle to everything (V2X) communication technologies is forecast to reach $6 Billion (£4.4bn) by 2025."
Does this mean if our old cars aren't retrofitted with this V2X system we wont be allowed on particular roads? Is this going to be the way of 'Road pricing' in the not too distant future whereas the system will know exactly when & where you have been driving & will bill you accordingly As they want to deter private car use in towns & cities and get rid of congestion will the price for driving in rush hour times be exorbitantly priced to dissuade you & get you onto public transport. "Vehicles in the UK may also be mandated to retrofit connectivity technology to any legacy vehicles that don’t feature the right level of factory fitted kit." https://www.fleetnews.co.uk/news/car...-mobility-live

The really exciting development will be when cameras in cars track driving standards of other cars and automatically report non-compliance to regulations to the authorities.
I suspect retrofitting will not be required. |
