low pressure on one piston: New Engine?
My 1.8 turbo SE 05 has been diagnosed with not enough pressure in one piston. Only 73,000
Is it better to replace the engine or have new piston rings put in? What is best to do or cheapest? |

You don't necessarily need a new engine - probably a cracked piston which does happen on the turbo-you need to take her to an engine repair garage to take the head off and replace/repair your piston and they should replace all the piston rings and relap the valves. I had low compression on a cylinder and the car was sorted by the garage.
Saying that where i live it is a lot cheaper cost wise than London.

Are you sure it's not a valve problem?

A cylinder leakage test will confirm if valve or piston related
The good news is you can repair either without removing the engine Last edited by TourerSteve; 5th May 2021 at 17:53.. |
