Cool Alloy wheel pitting

Can anyone suggest a way to overcome slight pitting of alloy wheels? I know they can be re-furbished but wanted to avoid the expense if possible.

Cheers

The pitting is caused by surface corrosion which creeps under the paint. The thin paint layer suffers constant abrasion and a pinhole is all it takes for moisture to begin the process. One way to minimise the problem is to give the paintwork on both sides of the rims an extra coating of clear laquer. Ensure the paint finish is sound and clean. Bad areas should be rubbed down, primed and resprayed with your chosen finish (mask the tyre with newspaper). After preparing the paintwork, mask the tyre again if necessary and give the wheel a coating or three of clear laquer. Allow ten minutes between coats and as long as possible to dry before running the car.

Hi, it's also a good idea to check the backs of the wheels, as these are not well painted. Corrosion can often start here that can creep under the paint and cause the paint to blister on the front face of your wheels.
