Normally when starting I put my foot on the break (just habit being an auto) and just turn the key, it has always just fired up and the I accelerate. Did nothing different this morning and it fired up then stalled. It then took several turns to fire up again.

I've been out several times today and all has been fine

Revving an engine before switch off usually sends unburnt fuel in the direction of the Cat causing damage.

The problem could have been an over fuelling problem with a cold engine, but my concern is the smoke on start up, this is burnt oil..

I sometimes get a bit of a spluttery start but it never stalls. I also had it on my last zt which i changed the throttle body for a new one and never had any further issues so was maybe a dodgy iacv or throttle pot.
I will do the same on this one sometime during the next couple of weeks and see if it improves.

No I don't rev it before turning off, never have in any car. Waste of fuel, and washes the oil off the bores.

Where is the temperature sensor located? I might try a swap to see if it makes any difference.

No smoke before or since, I said blue earlier but I'm not sure it wasn't white and it wasn't plumes of it just a light puff so to speak as it started.

I'll be off to Lates at some point he can take a look.

Called the AA and after flattening the cars battery and one of his own on attempted starts managed to get it moving albeit reluctantly. After a few minutes on fast tick over ran smoothly as usual and has not given any trouble since. He described the problem as bore wash as did my local X Part dealer.

David, where you been hiding ? You dont like our brand of coffee anymore
