Default Navall Comet - Review

After 6 months of ownership I thought it was worthwhile me posting an independent review of the Comet for anyone that is considering one.

I've no axe to grind, just my thoughts.

THE GOOD:

The unit looks great in the car. Boot times are very fast to the point of being almost instant, the screen is slick and responsive, and plays even video in great quality.

Sound I find very good, and a noticeable improvement from the OEM Kenwood unit in my ZT, and the FM reception seems at least as good if not better than the kenwood, ( although the RDS switching between frequencies isn't great - I often have to retune manually - but its no biggie)

Reverse camera is the business, and the iGo sat nav is good too, I mounted the aerial thing for it on the beam above the head unit inside the dash so it's totally hidden, but still get good satellite reception.

THE BAD:

I bought from Radioguy and while he seemed really nice, it took almost 2 months to arrive which was far too long, but when it did arrive it was well packed.

My biggest gripe is the bluetooth. Worked on my car for about a week but now doesn't work at all. Just doesn't find any devices when you do a search, and my phone doesn't "see" it either. This means the extra I paid for the OBD for torque etc was pointless as I can't use it, nor can I make phone calls etc. Seems bluetooth problems are affecting a fair few buyers of the comet but no one seems to have a solution.

The CD player is also buggy, it's very picky as to what CDs it will play, with no apparent reasoning (it often rejects even brand new CDs) and will stop mid song sometimes or totally reject CDs it was happily playing the night before.

To be honest I could have forced a return but it was such a rigmarole to get the thing in the first place I thought I'd end up waiting for months on a solution and by the time it arrived again I might not even still have the car as I usually only keep my cars a year or so.

DAB... I bought the additional adapter with the unit and as long as I'm right next to a transmitter it works well, but driving around reception is unlistenable with constant clicks and beeps etc - I'm sure this is purely the window mount aerial and when I install a proper external aerial it will likely be fine, but if you need DAB, forget the stick on window mount - its no good.

Would I buy again? No. What does work on the comet is great, but its far too buggy to justify paying hundreds of pounds for IMO. I'd probably buy one secondhand for £100 or so, now with the knowledge of what they are like in use.
