Members in the south of France

Hello

I'd like to hear from any members in France and to know if there are any meets, either official club gatherings or maybe splinter groups ?

I'm based in Toulouse and have seen plenty of 75's around town.

Hi Steve

We did correspond just as you were about to come over to collect your car.

Hope you collected it OK and that you are plaesed with it.

We have a maison secondaire (would be main but for the changes in the health rules - so it will not be until I am 65 or if that nice Mr Cameron gets his way 66) in 31 in Salerm.

We were over for a week late September but had a few things we had to get finished.

Shall be back over on the 1st Jan and go back on the 11th.

If you are about and would like to meet up then the Dept31 meet could be convened.

Relfpet also has a property in 31 and might also be there then.

Hello, Steve. Moonstoneboy mentioned me as another member fairly local to Toulouse, village of Saint-Plancard between Boulogne-sur-Gesse and Montréjeau. We spend quite a lot of time at our place but are nowhere near permanent residents. I had hoped we would be able to join you on 3rd Jan but fate conspired. We hope to be down from the end of February to maybe the end of March so perhaps we could arrange a rendezvous during that time. More when our dates are firm.

Did anyone here purchase a 2000 R75 Dark Blue CDT Classic SE RHD from Solihull, U.K. in Autumn 2007 and take it to Metz? It used be in the family and I'd like to find out if the old dame is still on the road.

I have just bought a property near Trie Sur Baise - dept 65 and intend to retire there within a couple of years.

Having aquired a small fleet of MG Rovers, I now have to decide which to take and leave in France and which to keep in the UK.

At present the facelift ZT-T 190 in Twilight monogramme paint finish is in France but on UK plates and will eventually be joined by:-

ZT 260SE Mark 2 in Bittersweet
ZT 190 Mark 1 in Copperleaf
Rover 75 2.5 Conn SE Tourer in Silver

I have yet to find out about the cost of getting them French plated and insured, or whether I can get away with keeping the UK plates and returning to the UK occasionally.

Anyway, hope to meet up at some time.

We have a place in Saint-Plancard, about 30 minutes east of Trie (nice little town, we completed our purchase with the notaire there). I spend most summers in France and would always be pleased to see you. Moonstone Boy is not far away and will almost certainly reply too.

My understanding is the French equivalent of MOT is every two years; no road tax. If you keep the car for longer than six months in France it is obligatory to register, though a British friend of at least ten years permanent residence has still kept her British plates. Insurance is less competitive than UK but should still be reasonable. So, it may even be a cost-saver to register in France. At the moment it seems to be a sure-fire way of avoiding traffic/parking fines whenever you come to UK if you carry French plates!

We are in Salerm (near Boulogne sur Gesse).

I hope this does not put a dampener on things re retirement but if you are not at UK State retriement age then you may be able to enrole in the French health system for a year or two and then you will need comprehensive health insurance until you are at state retirement age.

Sounds like you have got a mighty fleet of MG Rovers - lots of drives down fly homes.

Have met with Steve, admittedly a while ago (must contact him soon). Problems of trying to use maximum time to work on the house.

I normally see very few 75s and Zts on our trips - on our last trip think I only saw two and they were on the A71 within about 15 minutes of each other.

Find parts places like Feux Vert a laugh - if it is not a Renault or Peugeot forget it and then they seem to hold very little for these. However, Relpet ferrets things out.

Now that virtually all the work is done keen for meetings in France if we are there.
