Default Oil breather pipes blocked, advice please

The car started to sound dog rough driving home last night, I thought it was the exhaust blowing, on getting home there was a heat haze of smoke coming from the acoustic cover, the three way connector has completely perished as had the thinner pipe that goes into the white push fit near the throttle body, thanks to by other money pit hobby I have rigged a short term repair using push fit air hose connectors ( the pipes fit inside these rather than the previous outside connectors) my question is, no coolant lost and the oils still there, is car now safe to drive? oh yeah the pipes were all blocked so flushed with carb cleaner before refitting.

I'd say see how you get on but I believe there's others that suggest removing the rocker covers and cleaning out or replacing the small gauze breather filters to stop the problem coming back.

Short term providing you are venting the crankcase then you should be OK. I drove mine for months with a makeshift affair As said above, long term, worth removing the crankcase covers changing/cleaning the filters and making sure the small breater to air is clear

cheers, really odd, on tickover smoot as silk, purrs like a kitten, rev it and engine rocks forward, once engine off and oil filler cap removed, there is smoke in the chamber. Checked oil and coolant when cold and both are ok, collant still at max, oil now at 1/2 way point of min and max, there is and I cannot remember if it was there before, a coating of what looks like carbonised oil on the exterior of the dipstick pipe.

It won't do the engine any harm if you do an oil change, you are going to have to top it up any way so a bit of extra oil won't break the bank.

oil looks ok in itself, temp ran between 83-91 deg cel on a run out at lunch time, with a peak of 97 deg when stopped for a few minutes. cannot believe this has happened at this point, booked hotel for tomorrows mequires session, not sure if should borrow the outlaws car. one error code showing which is C78100 in location 14.1 the other locations seemed to have an error code also. but on checking the pics they are all showing as 000000 which is weird.

Buy a new one from Rimmer Bros (number 3 on the diagram) would be my advise.

One of my two v6's has a repaired breather pipe and has been running like that for about three years, go down to your local pumbing shop get a 10mm soilder tee (copper fitting) , a bit of silicone around the three black pipes, insert, let the slicone dry and Bob's your uncle. Should cost you about a £1, whereas Rimmers will cost you £20 plus delivery and you will have to wait in for it to arrive. The only reason the crankcase breather pipes are feed back into the engine via the throttle body is because of EU emission regulations. Our engines will run quite happerly if pipes are removed and throttle body opening is blanked off with the crankcase open to atmosphere via the black pipework NO DAMAGE WILL OCCUR.

The reason that it was running rough was due to an open port in the throttle body,

How do I know, I spent quite a few years developing vehicle engines and before the EU regulations, crackcase' breathers were open to atmosphere.

Nothing like turning back the clock to the good old days of motoring. A lot of people these days see all the pipes under the bonnet and have a mental breakdown, followed by a panic attact, need to go into therapy and call Dr Mechanic, with his fantastic EEG machine, code named T4.
