Default 200,000 miles

Not today but last week I passed 200k on the way to the inlaws for a few days.

Got a before photo at the traffic lights but I had to quickly pull in at the nearest side road to take a quick photo, much to the amusement of the wife!

Also just realised my tourer reached 15 years old on the 2nd December.

Moon club next, and hopefully It'll carry on to meet the Chinese on the dark side

Arctic:
Did you make your torpedo badge template? Is there a particular dimension/ position for template? just interested because I've got mine to do.

Passed my Mot! 😄
I was slightly concerned as I've been under the weather this week and didn't feel upto giving it a pre Mot check. Only advisories being engine covers fitted, slight corrosion to front springs and a slight buckle to one front wheel.
I intend on finding a replacement wheel this year and to treat the rust on the springs.

Really good and useful addition, cheers.

Eventually got round to swapping my feeble sidelights over to LED, what a difference, like going from candle power to electric!!

I've noticed a squeak from one of the auxiliary drive belts when the engine is cold and the outside temperature is above about 10 degrees, presumably due to the belts expanding with the "heat". Whatever the reason, I bought a couple of Gates Micro-V belts to replace them and set about it this afternoon:

First order of business is to sort out the tooling. A 24mm spanner is required for the belt tensioner, but is too wide to fit between the tensioner and the chassis leg. Out with the angle grinder and modified the spanner to fit:

Car jacked up and supported on stands, undertray off, front wheel arch liner removed and the water pump/power steering/alternator belt comes off first. A continental belt and doesn't look particularly worn:

Now able to see the air-conditioning compressor belt tensioner:

A bit of an awkward design, you need to apply anti-clockwise torque to the tensioner plate and then lock the clamp bolt once the correct tension is achieved, 47Nm in the case of a new belt. 1/2" Torque wrench and 22mm socket for the tensioner plate hex bolt, and 3/8" socket wrench with 10mm socket for the clamp bolt then the pivot bolt when that's done, then torque both to 24Nm:

New belt fitted and correctly tensioned:

Slight faff routing the new main drive belt, fiddly due to the engine mount stopping access from above, but not difficult. Belt fitted with the crank pulley last, because it's easier to loop it over that with the tension released:

Finished up with a wee bit of housekeeping, cleaned up the wheel arch liner and the bolt/screw heads with a drop of ACF-50 to keep corrosion at bay, and the same on the undertray:

All back together and ready for new boots on Wednesday this week:

Smile Busy day

OK so here we go.
Saturday. Changed the alternator on my old 75 CDT and fitted 2 rear tyres, Changed the oil and did the anti freeze. Fitted the new ECU to my very nearly on the road 2004 MG 1.8 turbo tourer and yes, finally after 6 years with the engine in the tailgate where it was dumped due to a blown turbo and shorted crank pick up wires, It fired up. MOT next friday hopefully.#
Sunday. Washed my 75 CDT. Washed and gave a full checkover to the red mg 1.8 tt. Then washed my other mk1 1.8t ztt and repaired the 2 little scrapes it picked up last year. Didnt quite get round to washing my daughters 2003 75 1.8t estate,It got dark. Just wanted to get it all sorted as the freeze must be here any time now.:

Just talking about your 1800T with Trikey while I was out walking the dog, and wondered how you were getting on.

I presume you bought an ECU set? if so don't dispense with the EWS and the key transponders, and I'll sort you a proper job to make it all match

If you fit LEDs keep checking them. I put LEDs in the sidelights of my 1.8T, one failed but DIDN'T trigger the bulb failure warning. I presume its something to do with the inbuild gubbins that makes them canbus friendly.
