Of course there are Ed, most of my tools consist of Britool, Snap On, Gordon, and King Dick, however I bought a £20 Halfords 3/8 drive socket set in 1992 with get this a PLASTIC ratchet.

Do you know what, even with the huge amount of use it's had over the intervening years, not one item, with the exception of the hinge on the plastic box, has broken.

Surprised?, I still am 22 years down the line

I have the small (£19.99) set Brian, and carry it in my scooter toolbox. I can strip a full scooter with it. Must have had it 20 odd years, and surprisingly the ratchet still works great.

The Halfords Professional range of tools are excellent quality, at a good price.

I am thinking there is a bit of "tool snobbery" going on here. :Santa3:

I have a couple of Halfords professional socket sets.
Brilliant quality, and a steal at the current half price.

I think you're spot on here!

Halfords originally sold and serviced bicycles way before cars as many will know.

Now that bicycles are uber popular, you will be severely sneered at if at a cycle club, you say you just bought a nice carbon CBoardman £1000 road bike.....at Halfords!!!! It's like you just swore at some old lady!!

Ridiculous snobbery to say the least!! :xmas-smiley-024:

Pretty much, but I think after working at halfords for long enough the boardmans were a rad overrated as they were often being repaired under warranty, sometimes the same part more than one occasion! Maybe that was just the way they were being ridden, who knows

Just check my receipt from a couple of years ago - paid £119 for the set but I guess everything has to go up.

Been a very good set and the best bit is the life time warranty which I have used on a couple of broken socket which cracked

My wife bought me this set for Christmas.
If a piece fails, do they replace the piece straight away? Or do you have to wait?

Straight away if they have it in stock, if they don't they can order it from the supplier (same with parts they no longer sell individually) or wait until it comes into stock

So to sum up:
Halfords tools are very good (I have one)
There are better tools out there. (I can`t afford one)
Some folk are not only snobs about their carpets and curtains:
They are snobby about tools :xmas-smiley-024:
Ken.
