Many thanks RobbieG - but I tried to remove the filler plug first and rounded the Tork 50 "stupid", plug is this yet another design fault the Germans have to answer for? What British engineer would design a 20mm plug with a 5-8mm dia. female to male Tork fitting. I know it's only 35 Nm but what temperature conditions was the plug fitted in the factory. Fortunately I stopped when I could not remove the filler/level plug as to remove the drain would mean I could not refil the Gearbox! The beloved R75 would have become useless, do you have any suggestions as to how to overcome this problem without destroying the car?

They can be removed using 'easy-outs' - these plugs are always ludicrously over-tightened by garages. They are usually 8mm hex rather than Torx.

Thanks for the reply but mine are Torx 50. Completely bad design, infact I've never seen a sump plug with a female Torx or hex fitting before. I'm going to investigate the Irwin Bolt Grip, many thanks. However, does anybody know what the filler and drain plugs can be replaced with?

Yes, I had exactly the same problem at the weekend. Tried Rimmers but the plugs are no longer available, so hope the ones from Ebay are the right size. Now only need to find an Easyout tool. But, let's be honest, it's not going to be easy.

I think 1.4L for an oil change and 1.6L from dry. The oil should be just below the fill plug.
I say 1.4 and 1.6 but i'm not convinced that's right as I put in 1.4 but could not find it below the fill plug macafee2 |

Before you do item 7, put some red hermatite gasket solution on the underside of the plug. No leaks and does not set, so easy to get out again.
