Being the the great position of collecting a car for "free" from a Club member a few weeks ago please can I add to the suggestion that she's at least put up on here for the amount the scrappy is offering?

She may, or may not, be able to be put back onto the road relatively easily but even if not there will be many. many bits & pieces that will certainly help us out.

Just a thought.

Andy.

Easiest way is to disconnect the fuel pipe at the manifold and then turn the ignition on

Going to scavenge some parts for my remaining Rover 25 so that old beast will continue on.
Typically filled up on with petrol on sunday night so I'm pondering how to get the tank emptied into my jerry cans. Can anyone offer any advice?
3 weeks ago my conny tourer gave up the ghost so after stripping all the parts I wanted to save I drilled an 8mm hole in the rear corner of both belly parts of the tank and drained all the diesel out into clean containers...easy !

I would be very wary of doing this, in case of heat/sparks from the drilling - you might be OK with diesel, but unleaded petrol is very easily ignited.

Siphon it out or as Trikey says, run it out through the fuel pump.

Thanks EastPete, Trikey, MGJohn, and everyone else. You're right it would be nice to save it (still MOT'd 'til May 19 too) but I can't do it or put the cash by.
I'm going to try and get the fuel line off at fuel rail, connect some extra fuel line I have and route it to a jerry can. The tank is full so I think this might take some time... My youngest daughter has put in a request for the fuel for her long suffering R25.
As suggested by some of the others I may well put the car up for sale on here so I don't want to damage the old boy getting the petrol out. (Where is that allowed?)
Any other advice will be gratefully considered.
p.s. I don't know how to thank each of you individually so I just keep using the quill icon on the last post. Maybe I'll get better at this stuff !!!! Thanks again.

Many thanks for the advice. Went into the tank on both sides, as tank gauge still showed about half full when I'd syphoned 30 litres out past the pump sensor. Retrieved nearly 60 litres (over £70 worth) which will run the R25 for a fortnight plus. Still enough to get the old boy up the drive when the truck comes.
Can't find anyone local who wants to take it for repair or spares so getting back to the guy who took our old Bedford TK to take it away next week.
One of the best cars I've owned, did most things well. I could drive it all day and enjoy every minute. It's a shame about what happened to Rover, they produced some fine cars. Can't think what to replace this one with...………
Good luck to all, happy motoring.
Thanks again.

p.s. Bridging the fuel pump relay did not get the pump running.
