Rear brake backplates - questions
(Just checking) This is graphite grease isn't it?
I'm not sure whether to get these sandblasted so I can repaint them - or just put more paint on top of the factory stuff. What have others done? |

The plates I suspect are often rusty when we come to look at them.
As mine were rusty I shot blasted back to metal and painted with por 15 macafee2 |

Yes, I think they'll rust quicker than anything else on the car - but is it worth sandblasting these brand new ones prior to POR15?

Not really.
You need a paint that salt spray doesn't affect. Salt and steel are not good bedfellows.--- |

The key is to remove the original paint, once that has gone use a decent red oxide primer (I did three coats) Then paint in the colour of choice.

Ok, I'll do it this way.
a) Sandblast b) Paint with Bonda Rust Primer Zinc - several coats c) Paint with POR15 Rust Preventive Paint - 2 coats Thanks everyone. |

Btw, was that graphite grease arrowed in the post 1 pic?
