That should not be a problem - from now on we are all going around to Brian's for welding.

Also yearly cambelt changes

As Jar Jar Binks would say,

This is going to cause me to reassess my views of northeners. I had been told that they were friendly and would do anything for anyone.

Yep, the zinc deposited during galvanising melts at a much lower temperature than steel and will cause liquid metal embrittlement if welded.

This thread will I suspect be a location of frequent updates, with recommendations as more of us experience bubbling patches of rust on sills needing sections replaced. Lets hope more standard sections will become available.

These sill outers have been on the market for quite a while now. And yes they are galvanised.

Just got my nearside sill repaired by Tom Hobbs after recommendations from the forum.
What a fantastic job. The outer sill was heavily corroded and after Tom cut it open that's when the severity of the corrosion became apparent. Jacking point completely gone and also part of the inner sill. Tom worked his magic and has completely rebuilt the damaged area and resprayed the sill. The final result is superb. Colour matched to car is spot on.
Anyone else who has this problem with corroded sills should check him out.
As promised I said I would post on the forum to make others aware of his expertise.
