Replace or reuse this shaft, clutch
This is the shaft/tube that has the clutch slave cylinder sitting on it, on a CDTI Tourer.
It is ever so slightly worn/marked. I am fitting a new slave and clutch plate. Can I reuse this shaft or should I replace it? What grease should I put on the outside of the shaft for the slave cylinder to sit on? costs are mounting, Just found the front lower wishbone arm bushes are shot and a new silencer will be needed. Already spent £175ish, still to order clutch,, oils and filters. I'll be working the rest of the year to pay for it macafee2 |

Definitely replace it - they cost about 30 pounds, and change the oil seal behind it at the same time (these only cost a pound or so from Rimmers). Put a smear of moly grease on the guide tube before you fit the new slave - not too much, or else it could contaminate your new clutch plate.
What make of slave are you fitting ? Pete Last edited by EastPete; 12th May 2018 at 11:46.. |

I also replaced the rear crankshaft oil seal and the seal on the input shaft. My philosophy was I didn't want to take the gearbox out again. Unfortunately I was sold a new slave cylinder release bearing that whooshes, so at some point it will have to de done.
