Default Rear Upper arm inner bush

Anyone got any links for a tool to press the bushes on these?

Im getting a pair of corrosion free arms powder coated, and want to remove the bushes, and fit new ones afterwards. (surely the heat wont do any good to them)

I see nothing much on the internets, and no signs of the MG Rover tool part numbers of course.

Ive a great wee tool for the outer bushes, but naturally the inner ones are a totally different size, and are more awkward with the thin rim of the arm around the bush.

Ross, powder coating is not the best method for corrosion protection for the arms

So if you've sourced a good set of upper arms, have them shot blasted, then paint first with THIS then three or four coats of THIS

Finally, the inside should be treated with cavity wax, if you've a compressor the stuff in a shutz tin is best

It is well worth the effort, and there is something very cathartic about doing the job this way too

You sure Brian?

It would be blasted, primed, then powder coated....

If you dont think thats enough how about..

Id rather apply a finish from an aerosol, looks nicer.

Im now thinking perhaps a multi-coat epoxy.....

Problem with powder coating is that it tends to be a bit too brittle and once damaged will let in water behind it

What you want on these is a tough durable finish, the aesthetics are immaterial

The Bonda primer doesn't scratch off, and the chassis black is designed to withstand the sort of abuse that the arms need to be protected from

Your choice, but I've been playing around with old bangers for long enough now to know what works well in terms of rustproofing

You've commented on the sprayed powder finish on the Indian arms already.............nuff said

looks like ive no choice in the matter.

Got let down by a local place who said they would finish in 600 line 2 pack etc...

Now the car is in bits and all the stuff is ready to go, they are saying they only want to powder coat them.

I dont have the time/space/inclination to blast, prep, spray all this NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD- at home, so looks like ive been forced down the powder route, unless anyone in Angus/Dundee/Fife knows anyone who can blast, prime, and wet finish a subframe, arms, ARB etc etc...

Really hate it when people say one thing then let you down by saying another.

Buy a paint brush and paint them yourself Ross, at least you will know they've been covered all over

Pair of Indian arms there Brian?

))

Bit paranoid about the solid alloy bushes, was an awful lot of powder in there which I can only assume is probably Alu oxide.

Measured them from both sides, and the alloy in the middle seems awfully thin!

POR 15 is good stuff, but can be a pain to work with - you have to make sure you do not tip any used stuff back into the tin, and if there is too much left around the tin lid/rim, you can never get the lid off again if it sets. I prefer to go the wire brush/blast, Bondaprimer then chassis paint route- it can all be done with a paint brush. Jenolite can be used to pre-treat any residual rust before the Bondaprimer.
