my goodness how much
Looking to get a tin of por15 anti rust paint
https://www.frost.co.uk/paints-coati...15-paints.html can be got a bit cheaper but still not cheap. how much? my goodness it feels as if it has gone up a lot in price since I last got some. Hammerite seems ok for light duty work but not as tough as por 15. £30 for not quite 1/2 litre. ye goods and little fishes. macafee2 |

I was put off using POR-15 by the cost, and also I heard it is tricky to use - once you have opened the tin, it sets solid around the lid, so you have to mess about with plastic film when you re-seal the lid, otherwise you will never get the tin open again. Cleaning paint brushes after use is also difficult, since the stuff sets solid if you do not clean them up quickly and with the right solvent.
I use Bondaprimer zinc primer on chassis/suspension bits, followed by black chassis paint - perhaps does not always give as good a finish as with POR-15, but should give equivalent protection. Also, you can clean the brushes easily in white spirit or cellulose thinners. Cheers Pete |

I'm a firm believer in ACF50, stays flexible, anti corrosion properties are top drawer, kills existing rust, seals surface instantly (very much like waxoyl but much better.
I've been using it for years on my work hack bike, spray it on everything and leave it to deal with the harshest winter months of road salt etc:, come the spring ... pressure wash it (cold) and re-apply if necessary. Never had any issues with new rust forming or any existing rust getting worse. You can buy it in rattle cans or larger quantities for use with a pump sprayer. Used extensively by the Royal / Merchant Navy on their ships so ... good enough for them ... good enough for me. |
