Vis Tester
Last week when I visited Austin Garages, Nick tested the vis motors on my 2.5 v6 using his T4. The test caused the motors to operate 4 times in quick succession. The front of the two motors operated 4 times with about 1 or 2 seconds interval between operations, however the rear motor took an age to operate, with about 8 to 10 seconds between operations. Nick didn't know why, he just thought it was strange and we didn't have time to investigate further.
Anyone got any ideas why this might be happening and what the consequences are? Andrew

Hi Andrew, to the best of my knowlege the motors are purley reactive.
IE: They have a power supply and a negative at ign on. This sets the VIS in the correct position. When a second negative is added it causes the motor to travel across, as soon as the motor starts to travel it sends a signal to the ECU to tell it this. when the second neg is removed the motor then travels back to rest and the signal to the ECU is stopped. Test box will / should give instant activation. If it does not, likely failure is on the cards Maybe the T4 was busy doing other things at the time and this caused the delay? HTH

2. the small motor in the actuator is full of oil and cannot operate correctly; it was designed to work with air inside ; clean it with compressed air and check it before putting it back (95%) Consequences: in both situations the motor will die soon if left so. Cold joints of the end switches is another common fault, but I don't think it is the case here, if it happens the actuator is not slow but not working at all. Checking it is mandatory though.

Thanks for all your good advice. I was hoping to have a look at it tomorrow, carsington, but as Primrose is minus a drivers seat at the moment, and because I didn't really fancy driving there in a garden chair, (it's probably also illegal) it will have to wait.
I went to see a club member in Reading today to get a replacement seat. Imagine my suprise when I got the old one out to discover it wasn't the seat frame that broke, it the base that's broken. A weld has bust and so it should be easy(ish) to fix, without the need for any more parts, Drivers seat frame anyone? See you in Derbyshire tomorrow YP
