See the football brigade are at it already, to quote the BBC Sport website "England thrash Iran in World Cup opener" as if it was a shock result Let's face it if they hadn't been able to put several goals past Iran they'd have been as well going home.

For the first time in my life, I have no interest in watching the World Cup. Nothing political, I just can't work up any enthusiasm. I much prefer to watch a game with schoolchildren on a Saturday who play with their hearts aswell as their feet. If they fall down, they usually get straight back up and get on with it.
Off to Wroxham for some shopping and early prezzy hunting before the crowds!(or not!) Hope it dries up a bit.

Morning all.
I too have no interest in the World Cup. I completely understand the sentiment about watching a game played by schoolchildren. In my marshalling days I did a few GP's. Far preferred a club meeting at, say, Mallory where the racing was close but (usually) fair. Every little thing wasn't challenged and rules were rules and everyone mixed together without umpteen passes to get anywhere. There's a couple of quotes I like: Auto racing, bull fighting, and mountain climbing are the only real sports... all the others are games. Ernest Hemingway I.e something that has a real risk of life changing injury or death. Could probably add boxing in the long term. Serious sport has nothing to do with fair play. It is bound up with hatred, jealousy, boastfulness, disregard of all rules and sadistic pleasure in witnessing violence: in other words it is war minus the shooting. George Orwell. It's Tuesday so it's play time for Quizzie with Bertie. No Bridget today as the poor girl has got kennel cough . Take care everyone. |

Yesterday whilst walking in a local park, we came across school children playing football on a football field watched and encouraged by their parents. The weather was miserable, wet and very cold. Despite this the kids had lots of fun. It took me back to my school days of playing football and rugby in the winter. If the weather wasn’t very nice, we had to get on with it. We would get a clip on the ear if we dared complain We also have no interest in watching the World Cup or watching politics or the news on the TV. But can google it if something important crops up. We do watch house building programmes, Midsomer Murders, Heartbeat, Foyle, Poirot. Fortunately the weather here is sunny and dry. Have a great one! |
