Default When did you join the forum and why?

Just a curious one really....

When and why did you join?

My back story is buying my first ZT in 2015, i needed a run about and there was a Red Mk2 MG ZT+ with Drivers pack 1.8 (non turbo) with like 56k miles for £550 literally around the corner from my house at the time.
So i thought screw it looks clean, i'd heard all the usual Rovers are rubbish and HGF blah blah.
I then found the buyers guide on this Forum, after reading all that i decided to join.
So when i rang the guy i asked about the HG and it had been changed only in the last year, all new brakes and fresh MOT.
Got in the car and it drove great, was making a tapping noise which later revealed to be a broken tappet which was then replaced with one from a Alfa V6...
But anyway, it was a great car i really liked it... it was just far to underpowered and terrible on fuel.
So i Sold it on for a bit of a profit after tidiny it up.

Then began the spiral of buying many ZT's haha!

But this place was a god send really.

I joined way back in 2010, May. I had a Volvo S80 and was facing a horrendous MOT bill, needed most of the suspension replacing. The garage had a 1.8 75 on the forecourt which wasn't going to cost much more than getting the S80 through its MOT! I did a bit of internet hunting, found the forum which reassured me about parts availability etc. Bought the 75 and have had various models since.

September 2013 AFTER I had bought my 1.8T. Then I found out what I needed to look out for but luckily for me the car was very straight and needed just a few minor mods like the plenums etc.
Always liked them and life drifted by without buying one until I decided to see if my £500 spend would be a wise decision. Since then I have bought 3 more. Enough said.

I originally joined .Org when I was looking for my first ZT and from there found this place and joined in 2007.

It helped me loads in making my decision to purchase one of our fine motor cars that same year and also a few years later to change from a diesel saloon into the V6 tourer that I kept for seven years, loving every minute of it.

I no longer have an MG but still happy to stick around with the great members of this fine forum

We had an Audi A3 TFSI as well but have gone down to one car.

With my change of job and being out on the road all day it has necessitated going back to the fuel of the devil...........a diesel
As we both like Audi's the Q3 fits the bill for us, still miss the ZT-T though

Cool

Joined in August 2010, 5 months after buying the Banana. A friend recommended this club after knowing what my first ZT had cost me in repairs.

And been here ever since. Made lots of friends and saved shed loads of dosh on Banana.

I do a lot of fishing and was looking for a powerful 'modern classic' to cart me and my gear around whilst I rebuild my '98 Escort GTI estate.

eBay gave me a number of choices and the short-list included Octavia VRS, Volvo V50 R-Design and Mondeo ST. By chance I saw a listing for a ZTT for a fraction of what the other cars were going for and the hunt lead me to the car I now have, found not too far away in Barnet and only on the market due to the untimely passing of the previous owner.

His missus asked their local garage to sell it for her so I had the advantage of seeing the car in the workshop under the ramps and to negotiate the fixing of a few minor faults into the price.

Around that time I chanced upon this forum and the buyers guides etc. In some respects I might not have gone through with the purchase if it wasn't for the fact that the great people on this forum, and the support network it provides, means I can enjoy my car even when not behind the wheel

I joined in July 2012, shortly before buying a ZT190 facelift in XPG. I bought the car from a forum member COAB who is still about here now although like me no longer a MGR owner. A nice car that had just about everything done to it.

Various MGR's have since past through my hands including ZR and TF etc but eventually felt i had worked the MGR's through my system and my mileage was getting silly high for such cars.

Now have a Ford Mondeo ST TDCI estate (or Tourer in MGR speak!) also bought from a past member of this forum. Possibly the best car i have owned to be honest and certainly by far the most versatile, from tip runs to house clearances and long runs, and with a gentle high torque remap capable of showing many cars a clean pair of heels whilst returning 51mpg average.

Re the forum though do miss my early days here when the forum was thriving and great entertainment as well. So many either departed, banned! or so sadly deceased in recent times. I am one of a few like Coab and Coolcat who have moved on to alternative non MGR cars but hang around.

Sadly talking about non MGR cars on here gets a mixed reception at times, perhaps i am/was a petrol head 1st and a MGR enthusiast 2nd, something i am totally prepared to accept.

I do find the op (Tom RS) posts totally refreshing when he talks about his amazing fleet.

Will probably join "Petrol Heads" at some point to find the variety i like but for now a nice place to join in from time to time. I do attempt to keep my posts up but dip in every day to catch up!

Thanks all

Mark

What a nice little back story, sadly i wasnt around in the early days but from all the formus i am a member of (Accord owners, RS246 and MBClubUK) this is the most active and most rewarding to post/debate on.
The overall owners of 75/ZT's are a great crowd and everyone apprciates and respects everyones cars, the help is second to none.
I have not been to any meets but think i need to get myself to some!

And thanks for the positive comments, i do have a pointless fleet of cars, but i love them all in different ways and probably wont part with them any time soon.
