Too true - the current version is more like an afternoon out in Wales

I must have started a little before you - my early memories of chasing the RAC round the Country include people like Ari Vatanan, Hannu Mikkola, Stig Blomqvist, Mr Cossack - Roger Albert Clark, Russell Brookes and Colin McRae's dad Jimmy.
You're right about the Stratos - you could hear it coming from miles away on a Winter's day in Kielder. Apparently, it was an absolute pig to drive - too short a wheelbase, which meant it swapped ends far too easily.

The nice part is that some of the cars can still be seen - Historic Rallying is a very popular branch of the sport nowadays - see this

.... and some more

You don't need Xenon projectors when you've got these bolted on

I think there may be the odd scratch on the undertray ..

An early Audi Quattro - before they went all butch and ugly

The Mazda 323 4wd - never really won anything

How did all these folk get the time off work - called in sick perhaps

Certainly does Jeff - sleeping in the car in the middle of freezing cold forests (2 sleeping bags, woolly hat & gloves and a drop of Lambs Navy rum) cooking baked beans & sausages (Heinz, both out of the same tin) over a camping stove set up on the floor in front of the passenger's seat, toilet facilities were .... erm ....communal parts of the forest
My son Gary went with me too for about 6 years - no mobile phones, just a CB radio, so it was 4 days of sheer, freezing cold bliss away from civilisation = enjoyed every single minute of it
