If you're going to buy an xf don't go for the 2.7, I've heard they're bad engine in the xf due to a lack of cooling. Seen and heard of and few being replaced, it's not even a jaguar engine either. I'd go for a 3 litre if you're buying one.

Tbh, i was more inclined to the 3.0 anyway.
But cheers for that

As you've probably gathered I've still got my trusty 75.
There's no rush these days and impetuous decisions aren't my game any more, but I suspect it's a change I will go for at some time.

Well I read all though this thread,,I operate in the banger side of the market,,but still have a softspot for the english style car..But it has too earn its keep..I like the 75 cos of its all round affordabilty and pleasant owning experience..Now if it was my cash I would get rid of the V6 and get a CDT,,yes I know what you are thinking its a side ways move, but cash wise I think its the best move.. Spend two grand and stick two fingers up to the bankers...Not saying the Jags a bad car,,just the 75 is better value for the true blue patriot..There are some nice S types on the market around 5grand ,but I personnaly think they look too retro,,or abit of a sham for my liking!!! Thats my opinion, like it or lump it!!

I suppose I'd better like it then. I don't fancy lumping it :-(

Go for it and enjoy it. Love the XF Sportbrake definitely my next car when the prices come down a bit. Go for the revised model (without the high headlights) if you can, they are slightly more revised..

"Lacked punch" surprises me though. The 3.0 diesel is quicker to 60 than a 2.5, let alone my 2.0.
Would you be talking about the 2.0 petrol Jag there?
I think it was probably the 2.2d, definitely a diesel and not that quick, that said the engine sounded quite refined for a diesel.

The 2.2 is the same fundamental tdci engine found in Fords and land rover vehicles. A good engine by all accounts. The 2.7 is / was a direct lift from the S-Types, in fact most of the running gear was s-type in the early XF's. The s-type at the time wasn't a huge seller, many were rebodied and given the XF coat.

Been running the 3.0 XF Premium Luxury for just over a year now and yes I do like it but can't help comparing it with the 75 Connoisseurs.

We've had none of the huge bills mentioned but our car had only 25k when purchased. It's just over 36k now.

Interesting though when serviced and MOT'd recently by a Jaguar Main Dealer they reported that my front disc pads were 90% worn and the rears 80% worn.
To replace them would have been around £500 but I said no as I knew they were not worn as they stated. When they issued me with the MOT certificate I queried why they were no advisories and the service receptionist just looked at me and said well obviously nothing was noted sir.
I reminded them about the reported condition of the brake pads and said I would have expected an advisory as I've had advisories on items much less important.

Other than this hiccup the only item I have replaced is the dipped headlamp bulbs twice. Incidentally the XF does not show a bulb failure on this unlike the 75. I replaced both with Bosch Plus 90,s but only 6 months later I had to replace the same offside bulb with another Bosch Plus 90.

I have a few gripes with the XF like ;

You have to switch on the ignition to see the clock.

The clocks, two them one in front of the driver, one in the touch pad are far too small.
There is another large clock you can display in the main touch pad screen but then you loose everything else.

The outside temperature display, again too small in the touch screen disappears when you use the SatNav.

The Sat Nav is very complicated to work.

The heated seats with three heat settings literally cook you and are not on a self timer so you have to switch them off manually.

There is insufficient space for small item storage like sun glasses.

When travelling with the seats folded down the road noise is greater than that of the 75

There is no proper left foot rest, just the carpet so it gets stained easily.

Overall I still like the car, it goes well, tows well and looks very nice when returning back to it at the "far end" of the car park.
The car has had a few electrical glitches, all repaired under Jaguar Approved Warranty with the near side door handle replaced, faulty lock sensor, one rear parking sensor replaced, the interior light repaired, it kept coming on by itself, and finally the fuel filler flap actuator replaced.

This last item resulted in me calling for roadside assistance for the first time since the 1970's

I can't wait to get back into my V6 though.

I too bought a 3.0D Premium Luxury (2011 model) last year and absolutely love it. There are so many nice touches to it - the rotating air vents, push button start and stop, keyless entry and exit, colour rear camera, front and rear park assist, heated front screen etc that all make it a special driving experience. Mine has 90K on the clock and it drives beautifully.

Regular journeys of 150 miles show 48+ mpg on the trip and it is so smooth. A light prod on the loud pedal is all thats needed to overtake at any speed and the V6 diesel is really, really quiet.

I have yet to have any problems so cannot really comment on maintenance costs but using a good independant Jaguar specialist will help to keep costs in check when needed.

I still have my 75 2.0D Tourer which tends to get used for shorter runs now as it is better suited to shopping trips and isless worry when parking than the XF.

If I had to be satisfied with only one car then I would keep the Rover for its lower running costs and great practicality but I don't regret buying the XF, it just feels more special than the Rover.
