Hi Arctic,
Yes, the EML came on after the original MAF was disconnected, so actually doing it's job, I presume. Just in case, however, I have also used cleaner on the low pressure switch contacts, but light is still on. My medium to long term plan is to fit a modern sat nav, which also drives Torque Pro, or whatever it's called Consequently, could either you, or others, recommend a code reader upto around £30 that I would buy in the short term, and which would let me reset the EML, please? Also to cover KV6 and CDTi Thanks again for your help, Regards Mike

The EML light should go off after a few engine starts if it was on for the MAF, and a good maf has been fitted. |

The MAF has a 2yr guarantee, and was bought from DMGRS, but not marked as Bosch.
The original is Bosch, and at the moment it's on the shelf. My idea was to buy some MAF cleaner, re-instate it afterwards as a test, then keep it in the car as a working spare. Given that you have now supplied test parameters, seems to be a definite plan. Regards Mike

I'm not around the corner otherwise I'd offer to plug the T4 in and see what it says the management light is. Might be worth asking Phil-T4 if he is still doing stuff as he might be the closest. |

Thank you for the T4 offer, and it would be interesting to know the cause.
Are historic errors staticised, I wonder, until cleared; i.e. if I cancel the EML, with a "domestic" service tool, could i get back to the cause later. Do you have any experience / comments on Torque Pro please. It connects OBD / OBD2 to a digital "dashboard" that you can create on an android device. Seems too good to be true. Regards Mike

I had something similar when I tried disconnecting the EGR electrical connection to disable the EGR on my 53 reg Connie diesel which then put the light on. I've previously done the same on my 52 reg tourer without issue . Reconnecting the plug and the light stayed on even after switching on and off a few times. In the end I had to clear the fault code with my Bosch KTS . If you have your radio code , if required, disconnecting the battery for 5 mins might clear it ?

Bosch are always the best to fit on our cars, aftermarket ones tend not to last, for just a little extra you could have got this, with a 5 Year Warranty. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/173328594711

Does the engine management light go out if you plug the original MAF back in?
There's very little to put the EML on in these cars, the DDE 4.0 is pretty dumb in comparison to the MEMS 3 in the 1.8 or the Siemens 2000 in the V6. You don't need a code reader or T4 to reset it It should clear on a DDE 4.0 as soon as the fault has been found and rectified. Russ

Sorry for delay in responding, Saturdays are always busy.
To answer Russ’s simple question re the old MAF, yes, the EML came on when I reinstated it. This contradicts my earlier statement that the EML first came on when I unplugged the MAF. I do however, believe both to be accurate answers, for reasons that I will move onto. Is it possible that there are two issues? The original MAF, triggered the Light, when unplugged, and the new MAF hasn’t reset the light, because there is also an issue with the body, into which the MAF sits. Or, in hindsight, because it is not a genuine Bosch one. Additionally, the light first comes on for the dashboard test, then momentarily goes out, before coming on permanently. Further background, in case it becomes relevant. The car was laid up on SORN, for 6 months or more, prior to me buying it. After I taxed it, the previous owner put 50 odd miles on the clock, as I requested, before collection. The previous owner also kindly replaced various filters, and put injector cleaner through it, the day before I was due to fly up to Glasgow, to bring the car down to Kent. En route to collect me from the airport, the EML came on. This was put down to the injector cleaner, and had indeed happened before. I declined his offer to turn the light off, as the tool wasn’t to hand, and I was on a tight time schedule. I drove the car home, without a hiccup, other than the EML on. Unfortunately, the following day, the alternator failed, with battery light on for much of the time. As I’m waiting for a replacement knee, I had a garage change this, with belts, and they switched the EML off. It is partly for this reason that I can be certain that the EML was still off, whilst I was driving home in limp mode. The other reason is when driving a car in trouble you are listening and observing for any little signs. Whilst out of my depth with modern cars, I have a pit, engine hoist, and have done a few bare body shell rebuild on MGB’s. I’m SU’s and positive earth, but like the sound of this Torque Pro stuff. Thanks for all interest, and advice. Regards Mike

My EML came on when I unplugged my MAF, apparently they do on the facelift cars.
It did eventually go out after about a week. Pete. |
