Been reading that to some extent ground effect is back next season. Cars will be allowed aerodynamic devices underneath to create downforce. The intention is to limit the size of wings and reduce the turbulent air they cause making it difficult to follow another car closely.

Here is a good video, showing the bypassing of the initial ground effect ban of 81 LINK. The way they bypassed the rule was genius, but the loophole was closed the following year. Another interesting bypassing method was the dual chassis, Lotus 88 (I think) - but not very good.

My son was just saying that about half the teams will be reinforcing there rear wings before the next race.
It will be interesting to see what effect this actually has on the performance of the cars. |
