Cool On this day 19th June 1973

The Triumph Dolomite Sprint was officially launched.
The sporty Sprint came with a 16 valve single-cammed engine and was the world’s first truly mass-produced multi-valve car. Another first for a British production car was the introduction of alloy wheels as standard.
The first 2000 Sprints, finished in the very distinctive shade of Mimosa Yellow with black vinyl roof, were a real eyeful. Performance was excellent: in a time when its competing Alfas, Ford Cortinas and BMWs were doing 0-60 in 11 seconds, the Dolomite Sprint could do it in the low 8s.

When launched there was little in the same price bracket that could match the 119mph Sprint for outright pace. Priced at £1740, at a time when a comparable BMW 2002 Tii was £1000 dearer, it was nothing if not a bargain.
The Dolomite Sprint was a plucky – if ultimately not class-leading – BTCC racer in the 1970s. It met with some success, with Andy Rouse winning the Drivers’ Championship in 1975, and also lifting the manufacturer’s title in 1974 with Tony Dron.

A very good "wolf in sheep's clothing" but the styling was a bit 'frumpy' and the BL competitions department asked for something lighter than the relatively heavy dolly.

Wasn't the Golf mk1 also about. Need to check but the Golf might been a tad faster (acceleration wise) but cannot remember the price of one1
