MOT'd and on the road!
Took the bike for it's MOT this morning, got a pass and compliments from the tester which was nice (only one advisory for slightly fluctuating rear brake).
Took it the long way home through the lanes, quite pleased with it although I think the forks could be stiffer and I am still getting used to having the gears on the wrong side compared to the BSA (remember I have been riding it almost daily during the good weather for the last twenty plus years!) Going to go for a good blast this afternoon and see how I get on with her. |

Used to have that complication when I had the Commando and the Goldwing. Chalk and cheese, with the Wing, prod a button and ride an armchair, with the Commando, tickle the carbs then jump off the garage roof onto the kickstart! Got it all wrong starting the Commando once and it kicked back, bruised my instep so badly I couldn't walk on rough ground for a week.

You want loud pipes get a '70s Commando. Diameter of the end of the silencer is the same as the diameter at the head with sodall in between . . . . and that's the standard system

The exhaust is quite loud, but nothing compared to the Empire Star, never had an advisory with that one, it can be heard from the other side of the village! (still has it's original exhaust fitted).

The Commando hadn't run for a while so I went down to the garage to start it, after turning the alarm on the Wing off! Several kicks later it started and blew a hole the size of a 50p piece in the left hand silencer . . . . you couldn't tell the difference.

Sold it years ago Gary. Got married. got a car, Commando just lay in my old man's garage not helped by the fact all my tools were nicked when his garage was broken into. I've got pics of the beast somewhere but haven't been able to find them since moving house.
It was a US import, bought it off a couple of guys who dabbled in importing bikes from the States for a while. Decent nick, most of the work involved basic tuning, fettling and replacing non standard parts like God awful short megaphone silencers. Got to admit the positive earth electrics did my head in a bit |
