Default Gear Selection issues

Hi
Not for me but for a fellow member and neighbour (Harry the Bird) who struggles to find his way around the forum..
Car is 2004 75 Conny diesel Manual
Problem selecting reverse and second all other gears select and drives OK in those gears. problem started Sunday and is getting worse.
The car has recently had a clutch and slave fitted and has been no problem in the month or so since they were done until now.

Any ideas
Ta Ian

Probably first things to check are the clutch MC fluid level, and look for signs of any leaks at the master cylinder (fluid above pedal) or slave cylinder (fluid at bottom of bell housing). A bleed through of the clutch hydraulics may be a good idea to see if that improves things. Do you know what make of clutch and slave cylinder were fitted, and whether the system was bled after the clutch change ? Where is the bite point on the clutch pedal ?

Also, check the gear selector cables have been correctly refitted after the clutch change, with the outer cables firmly in the slots on the support brackets, and spring clips properly in place.

He should take the car back to whoever changed the clutch and slave - the problem is bound to be the result of that work.

If reverse and 2nd gear are affected, it sounds like it could be the gear selector has broken.

Hi
Just an update, it's been checked today and looks to be a selector cable problem.. only £91.46 plus fitting.
Thanks for the advice.
Cheers Ian

It's not for me Rav so I'll leave it to the owner to decide what he wants to fit..
If it were mine I would always fit new when still available.
Can never understand why any one would fit a mechanical part that may already have covered 100k.
But maybe that's just me being fussy.
Cheers Ian and sorry for the late reply.
