BMW Key Question
Hello All,
Apologies for this one, not directly Rover/MG but BMW. A friend of mine has recently replaced an Audi A4 with a fairly modern BMW 3 series [don't know which model, but think late 2000s]. I did tell him to go for a 75 or ZT! He let on the other day that he only had one key, and then couldn't find it! It later transpired he'd left it on a work surface at home and his wife had put some clothes on the surface prior to putting them in the washer.....By sheer luck the key didn't get a bath. Of course the usual conversation then cropped up about the cost of getting a second key from BMW direct or via a dealer which is very similar to the costs fellow 75/ZT faced before the great traders on here came up with a very cost effective answer. My question is, not being too technical myself, is the facility the traders offer on here available for similar era BMWs too or is this a no no? Thanks for your help in advance Kevin |

If it is an E46 (pre 05 unless it is a coupe, which was produced until 2006), order one of these keys that Brian has linked to and I can program it all in, I had to do one for my E46. The EWS is only held in with 2 x 10mm bolts in them, not the 5 point torx like the 75! I'm not too far from yourself either |

A word of warning. Steer clear of the trader in this link. They sent me a 75/ZT key case which was not as illustrated in the listing and was useless. They agreed to a return but claimed never to have received it. eBay refunded me (the sum involved was £5!) and the trader sent me threatening messages. If you buy from them, expect trouble. Simon

Thanks Chaps,
As ever, this forum is of great help for non Rover /MG queries too! Some helpful information here including the warning. I'll pass this on to my pal Rob and see what he wants to do. Presumably there may be an alternative supplier for the key if he searches the internet? I'll also ask what model his BMW is-didn't think at the time! Kevin |

Thanks All,
I've passed all this information on and the ball is in my friend Rob's court. I asked what model the BMW is and it's a 2009/10 320d, so must be a CAS variant. In my defence, trying to identify it, the one time I saw it, it was a distance away in the dark and debadged with his personal plate on it! Kevin |
