Rob it should back off unless it's corroded, try and adjust at the front handbrake nut back that off a little, which may help you remove the drum disc to look inside and see what is going on.

Check the handbrake shoe hold down pins haven't pulled through by looking from behind the back plates (you should be able to see the ends of the pins if they are in position, or a hole if displaced) - a small mirror will help here unless you own a boroscope.
If the pins have pulled out the shoes will sit at an angle and bind.
Hopefully that won't be the case, but it is worth checking.
Good luck.
Hope that helps, Paul

Thanks all discs were off as it failed the MOT for handbrake, turns out a pin had rotted away so new pin fitted and reassembled and adjusted with wheel just slightly catching when spun so off to retest the MOT and I had to pull over with overheating. So popped into the car wash at the garage to clean the car for the tester and it seemed he didn’t want to spend any time under the car so travel home and it heats again. So next day jacked up and cam turned and handbrake pumped on/ off a few times but back to slightly catching so asked on here

May be worth taking the brake disc off again and having a look inside the drum. I know with my old ZT I had a similar problem after it was serviced and when I looked inside some of the lining had broken up and was catching where it had overheated.

I would also check how the handbrake has been 'adjusted', again I know from experience they do have to be set up with the cable and the cams correct, particularly if it's been adjusted to compensate for a stretched compensator where I had similar problems of being able to adjust so it would hold on the handbrake but not overheat (prior to my knowledge of the compensator and fitted a modded one)

Agree with the above, on a slightly different approach, are you sure its the handbrake and not the footbrake? calipers are known to stick?

Lol that was my plan to test first with the calliper off to see how free it is, just waiting on my joints recovering
