sometimes these front springs are not formed correctly as i have experienced myself. the top coil ends are sometimes are at too acute an angle to sit properly without digging in or seating flush on the upper mount. they are a pig sometimes to seat properly anyway and care needs to be taken when refitting the top mount to get them right. the bottom coils also need to be fitted into their respective but up points and i dont think some garages and others who diy do all this. if all these points were observed whilst fitting then andy (trikey) has probably hit the nail on the head with faulty manufacture. temperature sensitive are these springs anyway . it prompted mgrover to issue a bulletin to franchised garages to beware the use of aerosol cans on the springs. it would not suprise me if other temp extremes throw up weaknesses. its been a problem for all cars for a long time.
