Default I'm back and it isn't pretty

Hi all,

I have had a sabbatical. I didn't mean for it to be for so long.

When I left Slovakia (and my Rover) last fall the plan was to sell our Canadian house in early spring and move lock, stock and barrel back to Slovakia. It was a busy winter with the usual surviving a Canadian winter chores with the added preparations for moving.

Then, in late February/early March we were just about ready to put up the For Sale sign - when the entire world stopped. We took care of ourselves and stayed healthy and continued preparations while waiting for the world to re-open. Finally, in mid-July everything was in place except one thing to finally sell and move. The last thing was travel/medical insurance that would cover us for the 7-10 days of self-isolation when we got there. We almost got that sorted by getting arrangements made to be registered for government healthcare as soon as we arrived.

Then it happened. A little over a month ago I was riding one of my motorcycles running errands when I got badly hit by a car. She MUST have seen the big yellow motorcycle filling her windows. I was positioned in her right front quarter in the right lane. She was in the left lane. We were in a roundabout and she changed lanes into me to exit.

I have a broken left tibia and fibula at the bottom and the fibula at the top. My foot was completely disconnected from my leg. After a 2 day wait in hospital (I was hit on a Saturday) I finally had surgery to have a titanium rod and stainless steel plate installed. The doctor says it will be a 16 week recovery, but may not be 100%.

That takes us to mid November - too late to sell and move. Packing would be happening in January at the earliest and that is no good with snow on the ground. So, next spring is the earliest we can move.

The car is safe and sound in our garage there.

Anyway, I have a lot of reading to do to catch up with you all. I hope you are all still OK.

Cheers,
Glenn

That is dreadful. I can almost feel your pain but at least you are still alive and the rest of your family were not involved. I am sure there will still be sunny uplands waiting for you somewhere. god bless you!

Very sorry to hear this. At least you are on the road to recovery. Take care and keep safe.

How horrible, and in the midst of all the precautions everybody is having to endure. I do hope that you and your family recover and find a comfortable way forward. Such a trauma affects all those around one, those outside that circle cannot comprehend it.

Glen that is very nasty, my son broke his tibia and fibula a few days ago and like you has a plate and screws.
I hope you make a good recovery. Motorcycling is so dangerous when you are at the mercy of so many others.

Having you life on hold again must be hard.

good luck

Sorry to hear this news, hope you make a full recovery, the move can (has to) wait, make sure you are back to good health that is the most important thing.

As a former biker myself I'm really sorry to hear this.

I know you'll be sick of hearing this but do what the physiotherapists tell you. It'll make a big difference to how well you can walk about in the future.

Other stuff will have to wait but so be it.

Good luck for a speedy, full recovery.

Andy.
