Lower mount
A few of us are searching for suitable cheaper alternatives. I am waiting for delivery of a S/H Mondeo unit which looks vaguely promising. I must say that I like the look of FIDELS bushes.

I had "converted" one to poly, months ago, for my brother's car (Mondeo TDDI). I'm not very sure, but, if I recall it right, it is smaller and more rigid than the Rover OEM tie-rod. As for my bushes nothing much to tell. The good part is that my car is still running with one of them. The bad part is that it is too rigid for the diesel. The four arms of the "X" version are are too short for the hardness of polyurethane, therefore a significant part of the engine vibrations goes to the car's body. Even with two arms removed there is room for better. The "animal" from below is going follow, if it passes a few basic lab tests:

It's my own design, not an existing one. I will probably use steel, protected by galvanisation or phosphatation.
BTW, I need a little help here. It's been months since I replaced my broken engine mount with the "X" version mentioned before, don't remember how much room is above it. The "Transformer" is slightly higher than the OEM part. I would appreciate if anyone could confirm that there is enough space to fit it. Picture attached, the green dotted line is the perimeter of the original one. (@T-Cut , wrong guess, it is a leg link of a Transformer, only used once for an arm, but that was in USA and for a Woman Transformer, to film an add for McDonalds )

Clearance
WORKAHOLIC, re your request about clearance. There is plenty around the large end on the Diesels but I Assume that you are now thinking of producing the barrel with your insert so that it just has to be pressed into the original mount? The small end doesn't fail anyway.
Your pic of the Mondeo mount isn't exactly useful since it has obviously been set alight. Last edited by wuzerk; 11th December 2010 at 10:13.. |
