Default Subframe

Hi all.
I am just in the middle of a clutch change on my 2.0cdt following the excellent instructions from T-Cut, I have loosened the 3 bolts to the subframe on the nearside, and in my attempt to slacken bolts on the offside I have managed to round one off, does anybody know if it is ok to just drop the nearside subframe by 6 inches without having to loosen the offside bolts? Also while I am here does anybody have any tips to lock flywheel without a locking tool? Thanks.

I have seen this happen to a sump plug before !
The easiest cure at that time was to mig weld a bar to the bolt remains, and with a sleeved bar over the top of this, turn it out.
As far as the process of dropping the sub frame by 6 inches, I would ask the god of clutches, as hes specialises in the way with all concerning clutches and sub frame clearances.

Hi,

No 6 inches ! 2 or 3 max is enough ;it is said :

Manoeuvre and lower gearbox onto subframe with help of trolley jack and protective wood.
Limit the lowering of the subframe to 5cm using a block of wood as shown below.

And noo need locking the flywheel .

The last time i used these litlle tricks ,very useful to align engine with box :

Good luck

Mike

Thanks Mike that is an excellent idea, I have used the chains off my sons punchbag hooked them through the top eye and fastened it down with bolts from the battery box, it has helped but I hope it gives me the manoeuvrability tomorrow for the final push.
